Two types of solar panels are mounted on the sloped roof
"Solar power generation" and an "OM solar-powered system" were adopted. Electricity generated by solar power is used for the irrigation pump to water roof plants and the circulation pump for the landscape water feature. The OM solar-powered system was used for floor heating in winter and for the ventilation system and hot showers in summer.
A stream using rainwater runs along the building
Rainwater is used for the irrigation system for roof plants and landscape plants surrounding the building. Rainwater is gathered for the artificial stream in the garden and runs into the biotope pond. Water is stored in the underground storage tank after filtration and is used as irrigation water circulated by the solar-powered pump.
There is a lawn on the roof
There is a single story area where restaurants and shops are located--there is a lawn on the roof. Outside of the west side windows, there are various kinds of vines to avoid afternoon sunlight. All plant materials were carefully chosen. Herbs, vegetables and sometimes fruits are used as the raw materials for the workshop's cooking.
A double-roof system with long protruding eaves
The second story features a double-roof system that allows air flow between roofs to keep the roof cool without a heavy structure. The shading top roof was designed so that it is not attached to the main frame of building. It is also made to be larger with deep eaves to provide shade from the sun to the building's wall and the rooftop terrace. This roof was designed lower towards the west side to block strong afternoon sunlight more effectively.
Restaurant with floor, columns, and fittings of thinned wood
People with disabilities spend more time indoors and are usually more sensitive, thus interior environment has great affect on them. Therefore, finish materials were chosen carefully. Wood was used in many places to make the steel structure seem warmer. Thinned wood was used for exterior fixtures, floorboards, signboards, and furniture.
